SUPPORT FOR GOVERNMENT.
EMPLOYERS' ENDORSEMENT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —3PECIAL REPORTER.] WELLINGTON. Thursday. The action of tho Prime Minister and the Government in connection with the cablegram -from Mr. Lloyd George dealing with the crisis in the Near East was heartily endorsed by the annual meeting of the New Zealand Employers' Federation to-day. In proposing the motion, which was seconded by Mr. Albert Spencer (Auckland), president, Mr. T. Shadier Weston, said:—"lf we have to support tho Imperial Government in any military steps which it may be necessary to take for the safety of the Empire, it will impose % very heavy burden upon this country. All will ajree, however, that, whatever tho cost, we have got to face it and see it through." The following resolution was them carried unanimously:—" The Dominion Employers' Federation,, in meeting assembled, is heartily in accord with the action of the Prime Minister and the Government in connection With the cablegram, from Mr. Lloyd George regarding the crisis in the Near East.'* AUCKLAND REGISTRATIONS CONSIDERABLE SLACKENING. 77 NAMES TAKEN YESTERDAY Comparatively few enrolments of volunteers for active service were made at Auckland yesterday. For the 24 hours ended at id a.m. yesterday, 264 enlistments were recorded. From that hour tor 4.30 p.m. yesterday, when the defence office closed," only 77 names were received. Included in this number were nine officers, twa chaplains, six nurses, and one Indian interpreter. The grand total of enlistments is approximately 1551. [BY TELBOBAPH—-OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WEABLATANE. Thuradaj Recruiting has been'brisk. at Whakatane this last two days. Up to.noon today 65 men had offered for service. Most of them are returned soldiera and several .others were territorials. HAMILTON. Thursday. In spite of the improvement in the position, as revealed by the cable news, there has been little abatement in the rush to volunteer. Yesterday 95 applicants were enrolled,! while to-day 58 names were handed in at this local Defence Office. KOTQB.UA. Thursday. One hundred men have enrolled at Retorua as willing to join am expeditionary force. '
