REBELS IN CORK AND DUBLIN

Large concentrations and movements of troops have occurred over a wide area of tho west of Ireland, designed to crush tho last stand of the rebels. In a battle at Bonnicordan, County Mayo, General Joseph King was killed.' Tho battle lasted all day. The Freo Staters dislodged the enemy from almost impregnable positions. The rebels took up an ambush with road mines, machine guns, and armoured cars. Thirteen were taken prisoners. Freo Staters repulsed a machine-gun and rifle attack on a post at Cork. Freo Staters were thrice ambushed at Donoughmore, Counties Cork and Down. After a running encounter they fought through a fourth ambush without a casualty. Ono rebel -was killed, one wounded, and three were taken prisoner. ■Much ammunition and equipment wore captured Rebels attacked Free Staters in Tarbert barracks, County Kerry. After a day's righting incendiary bimbs were thrown into the building, which burs.t into flames, Tho garrison, having exhausted its ammunition, surrendered. Free Staters took 36 rebels prisoner in sweepine operations in the mountains between Tipperary and Limerick, and captured much equipment and ammunition. Free State troops have retaken Ballina. Fifty rebels were taken prisoner in. Ballinamorc and Mayo. Large quantities of arms and ammunition were captured in other districts.

While a military patrol was passing through Dundalk a bomb was thrown from an ex-Protestant churchyard. One Free Stater was killed and others wero wounded. Rebels attacked the guard on the bridge in another part of the town, and a terrific duel lasted for three hours. Householders wp.re obliged to lie on tho floor to escape the flying bullets. Tho attackers were eventually beaten off.

Rebels attacked the Wellington and Portobello barracks and the telephone exchange at King's Bridge station, Dublin. There was heavy firing for three hours. The guards at the exchange turned out and were assailed by bombs and revolvers.

Mr. Hailes, postal superintendent at Cork, who was shot on Monday, has died. Other deaths have resulted from tho skirmishes in Cork. Guinness' brewery offices in Cork wero raided, and a largo sum of money was stolen.. CAMPAIGN OF RAPINE. AIMED AT LOYALISTS. * A. and N.Z. LONDON. Sept. 15. The Irish Claims Compensation Bureau has received a large number of claims in respect of damage done to loyalists' property in Southern Ireland during the past fow months, disclosing an organised scheme to drive out and destroy British interests. The Provisional Government is apparently powerless to provide protection.
