PREPARING FOR ECLIPSE.
PAETIES HARD AT WORK.
INTERFERENCE BY WEATHER. REHEARSALS UNDER WAY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received 9.25 p.m.) K. and K.Z. SYDNEY, Sept. IS. The various solar eclipse parties are steadily completing arrangements for the great event, though the bad weather, in some instances, has interfered with the erection of the monster telescopes. Wireless installations are being completed for the interchange of notes, and other details of the work are well in hand.
In order that each operator may thoroughly know his part, and to assure the requisite accuracy in obtaining the priceless records for testing the Einstein theory and other important data associated with the eclipse, preparatory rehearsals are being held. Success largely depends upon fine weather, which is usually associated with the dry districts comprised in the totality area, though they have lately somewhat belied their reputation. The scientists, however, hope and are earnestly praying that more favourable conditions will be restored before September 21.
It will probably be several weeks before it will be possible to publish the actual results of the investigation of the Einstein theory, because of the necessity of comparing the notes of the whole of the observing parties. It is hoped, however, to get purely preliminary resultn within a week after the eclipse.
