AUSTRALIA IN LONDON.

TRADE ENVOY SUGGESTED. BUSINESS SIDE NEGLECTED. Australian and 27. Z. Cable Association(Hecd. 9.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. An*. 22. Speaking at the annual conference of the Farmers' and Settlers' Association, Mr. A- '&. Trethowan, a member of the Legislative Council, who recently visited London in connection with the marketing of primary products, urged the need of having someone in London thoroughly conversant with business who could decide fearlessly without having to refer to Australia. He mentioned that while in London he was -able to make' £40,000 to £60,000 for the wheat pool because he was able to put through sales at. the right time.

He contended that Australia was not receiving an adequate return for the outlay of £1,000,000 spent on Australia House and the several thousands spent yearly npon the High Commissioner and his staff. The business side of Australian representation in London was not sufficiently looked after.
