TAURANGA AFFAIRS.

DOMAIN IMPROVEMENTS.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] TAURANGA. Tuesday. The local committee to the Domain Board a- sum of money to be expended in labour in carrying out schemes of levelling and improving the sports ground at tho north end of the Domain. Levels were taken and plans prepared for this work by' the chairman of the board as far back as 1910, but the proposal was shelved owing to funds not being available from tho sports bodies interested. At the present time the various hockey clubs are leading a combined effort to raise funds for the same purposfv and these, added to the funds now available, should result in a very great improvement in the Domain by providing much better accommodation for all sorts of games and athletic sports. \i funds permit, after the northern end has been treated, similar work will be carried out-at" the southern end, thus adding immensely to the sports accommodation available, and giving greatly improved facilities for' spectators. ; ~ ' The first poll of the hockey clubs' queen carnival in aid of Domain improvements gives the Silver Bell candidate, Miss P. HarUey, the leading position. The other candidates are: Miss J. Foster (Maroro), Miiss E. Walker {Axeta), and Miss V. Tanner (Gate Pa). The Public Trust Office is advancing the Hospital Board a loan of £12,500 for 20 years at 6 per cent. Plans for the new hospital at Tauranga are now being prepared by Mr. H. H. Clemson, architect, and will bo submitted to the Department of Health at an early date. The Bowline Club held its annual ball in the Town Hall last night. The function was largely attended, and proved a> great success in every respect.
