CATTLE TICK PEST.
Sir,—ln the Herald of Friday ap* peared an article headed "Cattle Tiok Pest," and I notice that tho tick regulations are very carefully set out and what the farmer must do before removing stock. When North a few days ago I was told about a seagull being shot, and on examination no fewer than six ticks were found on it. That being the case it will be interesting to know how the department intends to deal with the seagulls that flock on the farms by thousands and fly from one coast of New Zealand to the other, and in fact over the whole Dominion. It is to be hoped the farmer will not be asked to erect dips for seagulls, as the catching and dipping would be about as hopeless a job as trying to eradicate tho tick by dipping cattle, horses and dogs. Australia has spent thousands on thousands at the same game and ia just as far off as when she started. James McLbod. Mount Albert.
