The Auckland Rugby touring team will play tho fourth match of the Southern tour against Otago at the Carisbrook ground, Dunedin, to-day. It is 11 years since an Auckland team played an Otago team at Dunediu, and the contest this afternoon is being looked forward to with specially keen interest by Rugby players and enthusiasts in the South. During the years that Auckland held the Ranfurly Shield Otago sent several teams north in an effort to secure the coveted trophy. On the last occasion on which the two teams met in Auckland the game resulted in a draw. The Ranfurly Shield is not involved in the match this afternoon, but the contest is nevertheless certain to be keenly contested. Auckland's defeat by: South Canterbury does not promise well for a victory over Otago, but Auckland teams have a reputation for playing, superlative football against Otago, and to-day's contest may be no exception. Otago is well represented . this season, particularly in the back division, where W. R. Fea, the brilliant Otago University five-eighth, Otago representative, South Island and New Zealand player, is the prime factor. The Otago team is as follows:—Fullback, Sinclair; threequarters, Stewart, Murray, Owles; five-eighths, Perry, Fea: halfback, M'Naughton; forwards, Coombes, Munro, Sontag, Duncan, Knox, M\Meeking. Dickson, Wilson. Reserves: Backs, Watson and Mackereth; forwards, Milne and Cameron (Pirates). THE ALL-BLACKS. FINAL MATCH TO-DAY. The final match of the New Zealand Rugby team's tour of Australia and New Zealand will be played on Athletic Park, Wellington,. this afternoon against the Maori team which Tecently toured Australia. The contest promises to be unusually interesting and instructive owing to the fact that the Maori team won the rubber from New South Wales, which the latter subsequently won from New Zealand. The prospects favour the All-Blacks, whose combination is more complete than that of the Maori team, which -was disbandtsd a few weeks ago. The Taranaki-Wellington match will be played prior to the match against the Maoris. Mr. T. Parata has been appointed referee for tho latter match. SYDNEY UNIVERSITY TEAM. DUE AT AUCKLAND ON MONDAY. The Northern Union Challenge Cup, at present held by Auckland, is involved in the match. A challenge contest between Auckland and Hawke's Bay wot played last season, when Auckland succeeded in retaining the oup. Th'B Hawkti's Bay team, this season is reported to be an exceptionally strong side, and with sound combination should give a good account of itself. The Auckland team is well represented, and with a good knowledge of the finer points of the iLeague game is expected to put up a finished cxhibitiou of the code. The following are the teens :— AUCKLAND. Fullback.—W. Davidson. Threequarters.—G. Davidson, Dufty, Delgrosso. Five-eighths.—B. Laing, WetheraU. Halfback.—Nicholson. The conservatism shown by the Atufcltvna League, and the selectors in not playing a game between the 26 men chosen to tram, makes one.think they aro attaid to let the public see the team play agajust a strjng cpmLination, for fear of showing their judgment may be at fault. If the club contests are to be the only guide, I don t think the public will bo satisfied, especially as aome of tho players chosen have bad it. put all over them' by men now denied a chance of showing whether their are the better players. I think overyshing- possible si euld be done to get the best. team, irrespective of reputation or any other reason." THE ASSOCIATION GAME. TO-DAY'S MATCHES. SEN iOR DIVISION FINAL. The event of the season in the Association football olub competitions takes place this afternoon, when H.M.S. Philomel plays North Shore at No. 1 ground, Victoria Park. The result of the game decides tho championship for the season, and a good contest with a record attendance of. spectators, is" anticipated. What should prove to bo a particularly interesting .curtain-raiser will be provided by the "midget" boys teams of Belmont and St, Heilera Bay public schools. The players, who are all under 14 years of age and 4ft. 9in. ui,. height, have been well trained, and for their size play remarkably skilful football. Other matches are a trial game between two Pohsonby teams to select the representativea for the Falcon Cup knockout .competition, and the various club competitions in the lower grades. ~ • .
