. 4t» BEACH RESERVE PURCHASE. [BY TBLEGKAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WAIHI. Friday. The acquisition of the Waihi Beach. Reserve was again before the Borough" Council last evening, when tho Mayor, Mr. Donaldson, detailed the proceedings at a sitting of the Compensation Court and expressed the opinion that the price fixed for the area of 70 acres at £4700 was satisfactory to the borough. It was only some £700 more than the council baa offered for the area. He went on to say that he was desirous that the reserve should be converted into a model seaside township, and to this end moved .that; Mr. Pearson, the Auckland landscape expert, should furnish a report on the lay* ing-ont of the reserve. This was- thought an unnecessary expense by one or ,two members, but the council on the voices adopted the motion. The Waihi Borough Council afc last night's meeting moved in the direction of purchasing a water gas plant and certain retorts, which it is aatici-.-pated will be installed at the municipal gas works in time to become operative by next winter. , The; installation will effect a saving in gas production of £1426 annually, the reduction being given as just upon 2s per 10Q0 cubic feet or from 6s 2d to 4s 3d.
