_»_- —i THE QUEEN CARNIVAL. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE KUITI. Friday. ' The coronation ceremony, which marked the final stage of the recent queen car- j nival competitions instituted for the purpose of raising funds for the improvement ' of the school grounds generally and for ' supplying necessary equipment in order ' that full scope can be given to the carry- , ing out of the school curriculum, took place at the People's Picture Palace last | night, and from every point of view it was a brilliant function. Ladies-in-wait-ing, pages, and heralds there were in , plenty, while the stately archbishop, the , lord chancellor, lord high chamberlain, queen's jester, queen's champion, standard bearers", peers, and beef-eaters filled their roles with an impressive dignity. The whole represented a brilliant pageant, and the remainder of the evening was devoted to a musical programme. The queen of queens was Rangihuia Hetet, and her attendant queens were Elaine Hamill, Annie Nilson, Jocelyn Hamill and Connie- Avery. In the recent competitions the sum of £856 10s was raised, and will be devoted to the cause mentioned.
