M.P. AND TEA GIRLS.

MR. BROWN'S COMPLAINT.

SHORT CHANGE GIVEN.

[BT TKLiaBAPH.—SPECIAL SBPOETEB.] WELLINGTON. Thursday.

A complaint was made by Mr. Vigor Brown, of Napier, in the House of Representatives to-day, that he had several times received wrong change from the waitresses in railway tearooms. On one occasion he had given, a girl a shilling for a cup of tea and she had disappeared with the shilling. He did not get any change. On another occasion he had given a girl two shillings and she had given him back a shilling. He said, " What about 'my proper change?" He got no satisfaction. He suggested that if that sort of thing went on the Government should take over the tearooms and run them as they did the restaurant successfully.

.The Minister for Railways, Hon. D. H. Guthrie, said this was not the first complaint of the kind that had reached him, and he would have a thorough investigation made.

Mr. Brown said he had told one girl that he would report the matter to the Government, and she had replied that he could do anything he liked. This occurred at Paekakariki.
