THE BANK RATES.
I Sir,—This winter 1,300,000 unemployed . in Britain will be fchort of food, short of ■-, clothing. Bone of our bone; flesh of oar flesh; men and women of our blood* of our race; what can we in New Zealand do for them/ Lower the bank rate. Every penny off ita burden of interest will be . ' spent- by agriculture upon tilings absolutely necessary to increaiied output. Every penny of it will more than double itself immediately. The ToSurae of trade thus increased will afford some mitigation of j the •unemployment in the Old Land. Money paid in bank dividends, moreover, cannot be as fruitfully employed from a national point of view as in this way, and the receiver of dividends docked of a superfluous 6 or 8 per cent, will be able \ to experience the joy of relieving want - and of building up his own race.
