DEMAND FOR THE FREEHOLD. Lbx JTELEGBAPH. —OWN COEKESPONDENT.] GREYMOUTH. Wednesday. With the object of promoting the passage through Parliament this session of a Bill enabling the Greymouth holders of Maori leases to acquire the freehold, the Chamber of Commerce requested the Mayor to convene a meeting of leaseholders. The meeting was held last evening. After a long discussion, the following resolution was carried:—" This meeting of holders of leases in the Greymouth native reserve, urges the* Government to pass this session a Bill for the purpose of enabling the lessees on such reserves to acquire the freehold of their sections. In order to defray the expenses connected with the promotion of the Bill, [t was decided that every leaseholder should be asked to contribute a levy of a £d in the £ on the unimproved value of his holding.
