DAVIS CUP CONTEST.

AUSTRALASIA V. FRANCE,

DISPUTE OVER VENUE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association,

Seed, 10.5 p.m.)

NfrW YORK, June 29.

The United States. Tennis* Association has cabled its decision concerning the site of the France v. Australasia match. It is asking both teams to make every effort to agree among themselves. If this is impossible the match must be played in the United States, probably at Boston. It wan held that France, on May 18, wrote to the United States Association consenting to play the semi-finals in the United States. The United States had pointed out that a study of the draw showed that France and Australasia would prooably meet in the semi-finals. Australasia, when forwarding its challenge for the Davis Cup, requested that its matches be played in America. The United States recommended that Australasia should play at least two of its matches in Europe, and to this Australasia consented.

Australasia, after playing Czecho-Slov-akia, will have carried out ite bargain. France apparently hap changed its mind and has cabled to the United Stater- asking that its match with Australasia should be played in England about July 14. The association feels that Australasia is in the right.

it is ■ understood that the date of the Australasia v. France match will bo August 10. 11 and 12.
