WORKERS' COLONY.
QUEENSLAND SCHEME. PROVISION FOR UNEMPLOYED. [FXOM OtTi OWK SYDNEX, Jura. 7. The suggestion that an unemployed worker*' colony should be established has been put forward by the Unemployed Workers' Committee in Northern Queensland, and the proposal is to bo placed before the Queensland Premier. The objects of the movement, which, were approved at a meeting of the unemployad, are, by co-operative efforts, to relieve the distress among the unemployed workers, and io demonstrate that the working class are capable of managing and controlling industry, this object to be attained by the following methods :— Raising funds, securing free grants of land from the Government, securing a subsidy from the Government on anaanouno raised by the colony, obtaining implements to work the land, co-operating in labour power .in clearing and cultivating land, producing foodstuffs in connection with marked gardening, agricaitural, pastoral pursuite, and fishing, erecting aasM maintaining suitable guartera, kitchens* laundries, libraries, and recreation rooms, and receiving and expending money to further the above objects. The general rules suggested are: Gcmpulsory labour shall be the first rule of the colony; the hours of work shall be determined by the first rojeting of the colony; all. members shall observe order, discipline, cleanliness, hygiene, and sobriety; the committee shall detail any members to any occupation. The mesne of raising the initial funds are by making a voluntary levr on workers of Is weekly, to be subsidised by the Government.
