BURGLARY IN THE CITY.
HOTEL CELLAR ENTERED. ARKEST OF TWO SUSPECTS STRUGGLE WITH THE POLICE A burglary occurred in the city late last night, a cellar of the Royal Hotel, Victoria Street, being broken into and a case of whisky and a quantity of port wine being stolen. N Two men suspected of the burglary were subsequently discovered on a near-by vacant section. In a struggle that ensued with two constables, one of the policemen was knocked down and stunned, the assailant making good his escape. .The other man was arrested as was also another found elsewhere. The hotel was entered from the rear of the building at about 11 o'clock. The intruders broke through two doors into a cellar, smashing the lock of one door with a kmmer. They made their escape with the stolen liquor, and two of them, it is stated, lingered on a vacant section to open the case of whisky under the "shelter of a pile of timber. The burglary, in the meantime, had been discovered, and a search of the neighbourhood was made by two constables. The presence of ,the two men was revealed by the noise made in opening the case. One of the suspects was secured after a sharp struggle, but the other, in running away, charged one of the constables knocking him down and rendering him helpless for several moments. The arrested men will be charged in the Police Court this morning with breaking and entering.
