THE NEW MOTOR BY-LAW.

SATISFACTORY OPERATION.

STATEMENT BY THE MAYOR.

"The operation of the new motor bylaw during the paßt two days has proved that it is quite workable and satisfactory from a traffic point of view," was the opinion expressed by the Mayor, Mr. J, H. Gunson, yesterday, as tho result of his own observations and the reports of I the traffic staff.

It was predicted by motorists and others opposed to it that tho by-law, which requires that all mechanically propelled vehicles shall stop and not pass stationary tramcars while passengers are alighting from or entering tho cars at all stopping places, except where there tre safety zones, would lead to congestion and interruption of traffic, but the Jdayor stated yesterday that so far no ■undue congestion of traffio or inconvenience io 'drivers had been experienced, and he did not think it likely that conditions would ariso that would necessitate the City Council further considering the matter. He added that from the pedestrian's standpoint, in view of the traffic conditions which had developed, with reckless driving and the danger to passengers, the by-law was really overdue.
