BURGLARY IN CITY.
J • . ( . . /-, ; CITY MARKET PRCMISES. ATTEMPT TO OPEN SAFE. EMPTY CASHBOX FOUND. • A burglary took place at the premises ctf J. Jones, auctioneers and grain merchants, City Markets, about 11 o'clock last night. A policeman on his beat noticed that entry had been effected, and, making an inspection, discovered that a number of drawers had been ransacked and an attempt made to break Open a safe. The intruders had decamped before the attempt was discovered. A cash-drawer, which had been pulled out, wan found empty, and tho look of a safe had been fawn off, but both remained fast. Apparently the burglar had endeavoured to prise open the door with a> bar taken from a weighing machine, as a piece of iron was broken off short in between the door and the flange.
It was not known last night what sum of money, if any, had been stolen.
