May 13. j The Admiralty announces that owing large reductions of the requirements of j personnel for the fleet and naval estabi lishments generally, a large surplus of ; officers exists in certain ranks and ! seniorities. The total surplus is approximately 1835, of which 1429 belong to the I 'executive branch. The Admiralty hopes! 'that all fffioers in the ranks and seniori- ' ties affected who have special chances of settling in civilian life or exceptional | opportunities for taking another career I will do so. Should the response to this j invitation be insufficient, the requisite' j number of officers neccssary to complete ! the reductions will be selected, and will be given the alternative of retiring on special terms or being placed on half pay. t
