DISMISSED OFFICIALS.
PUBLIC MEETING AT NAPIER. [by telegraph —press association.] NAPIER. Saturday. A public meeting called with the object of protesting against the Borough Council's decision to dispense with the services of the manager of the tramways, the electrical engineer, and six other employees in the tramways am' electric lighting departments, had .. somewhat negative result. After the difficulty of I procuring a chairman for the meeting, j which was largely attended, had been i overcome, an irregular discussion preceded j the moving of a motion suggesting that 1 the council be requested to reconsider its ; decision relating to the two heads of the i department, pending an investigation by I a competent electrical engineer and an accountant. An amendment was then moved that the meeting take no consideration of salaried employees while wageearners are not being considered. The amendment was declared carried, and the meeting terminated without any further proposal being made.
