A SHOWER OF GIFTS.

GREAT PERSONAL TRIUMPH. A. and N.Z. TOKIO. May 9. Extraordinary pains were taken to make the Prince of Wales' visit enjoyable, and no expense was spared. For instance, a sum of £2000 was spent to make a special road to the top of Mount Yashima. Gifts were showered on him from all parts. He takes home over 60 large cases of costly souvenirs, many of great historic worth. Not a word of politics was mentioned during the tour, speeches being purely polite, with personal toasts, but Japanese statesmen agree that the visit has undoubtedly had a marked effect in strengthening relations between the two countries. In addition, the Prince achieved a great personal triumph.
