POSSIBILITY OF BATTLE.
HELP FOR NEEDY REFUGEES
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received 7.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. LONDON, May 9. Grave reports are current of an impending big battle on the Tyrone and Donegal border, where considerable forces of Ulster police and Irish republicans armed with maehino-guns face each other. Replying to a deputation of members of the House of Commons interested in Irish refugees, Mr. Austen Chamberlain said that- the Government had considered the matter, but it could not do anything to encourago a. general exodus from Ireland. Nevertheless it was impressed by the evidence and thought that there was pressing need for "help in some cases until the refugees were able to return to their homes. The Government accordingly was appointing a committee under Sir Samuel Hoare to deal with such cases.
