MEMORIAL HOSPITAL.
BUILDING AT WAIUKU.
FOUNDATION-STONE' LAID.

WAIUKU. Wednesday. Tho laying of the foundation stone of the Franklin Memorial Hospital took place at Waiuku this afternoon. Prior to the ceremony the Auckland Hospital Board members were entertained at luncheon, Mr. A. M. Barriball presiding.
Later, a procession was formed at t'ho National Bank corner, including the school children, members of the Hospital Board, and representatives of the local bodies, and headed by the town band it marched to the site where the ceremony was performed by Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board.
In his address, Mr. Wallace said that when finished the hospital would be the most up-to-date of its kind in Australia or New Zealand. The cost would be in the vicinity of £14,000, and tho hospital would contain eight beds.
Other speakers were: Mr. Cland Motion, chairman of the Franklin County Council, Mr. M. J. Coyle, Hospital Board member, Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, Harbour Board chairman, Mr. G. Baildon, Deputy Mayor of Auckland, and Mr. J. D. Chalmers, Franklin member of the Hospital Board.
During the afternoon Mr. Wallaco was presented with a silver trowel, suitably inscribed, by Mr. Sutherland, contractor, as a small memento of the occasion.
