EX-SOLDIERS IN DISTRESS.

SYDNEY'S GRAVE PROBLEM. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 7.30 p.m.) SYDNEY. May 9. The need to relieve the distress of a large uuniber of unemployed returned soldiers is becoming more pressing in view of the approaching winter, but owing to the general congestion of tho labour market it is proving a more difficult, undertaking than was expected. A meeting called by the Lord Mayor proved futile, owing to the non-attendance of largo employers whose co-operation -is -essential. The meeting was adjourned to enable efforts to be made to secure their attendance.

TRADE WITH EAST INDIES.

DUTCH EXHIBITION OPENED. SYDNEY. May 9. With the object of developing trade with Australia an exhibition of products of the Dutch East Indies, promoted by the Dutch Government, has opened in Sydney. Speakers stressed the mutual benefit that the two countries would derive from the promotion of an exchange of commodities.
