TAURANGA HARBOUR.
BOARD'S SOUND POSITION. [BT TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA. Tuesday. The annual meeting of the Tauranga i Harbour Board was held yesterday. Mr. IR. King, the retiring chairman, presented .1 report reviewing the board's operations for the past year. This showed inward* cartro traffic of 21.555 tons and outwards 6523 tons, plus timber exported, 1,628,000 ft. In touching on loan matters the report referred to the financial stringency, and stated that the policy of the board regardin-; harbour improvements must bo one of " marking time." The report referred to the sound financial position of the board. Over £10,000 has been spent out of revenue on permanent harbour improvements and the harbour dues and wharfage charges are practically the lowest in the Dominion. Mr. King was unanimously reelected chairman. The chairman's honorarium was fixed at £75 for the ensiling year. At an ordinary meeting of the board held subsequently Mr. F. S. Dvson, district engineer to the Public Works Department, advised that the department was willing to erect a beacon at the Narrows, the board to meet the whole cost p of tho work. The board sanctioned the paymert of £1176 in order to extinguish debenture loan account No. 2.
