INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
NOTIFICATIONS FOR APRIL. The number of infectious diseases notified to tho medical officer of health at Auckland during April shows an increase of 136 on the figures for the previous month, this being mainly due to tho epidemic of typhoid fever in the Mount Albert district Of" the total 298 cases, 131 were notifications of typhoid fever, 14 being from the city, 110 from tho suburbs, and 7 from tho country. In March there were 12 notifications, and in February there were 13 cases. Twelve casos of diphtheria were reported last month from tho city, seven from the suburbs and 43 from the country, a total of 62, as compared with 53 in March and 26 in February. A slight increase of scarlet fever occurred, 29 cases being reported, four from the city, six from the suburbs, and 19 from the country, as. compared with 19 in March and 18 in February. Tuberculosis showed an increase of two, tho latest total being 19; and chicken pox cases numbered 26, an increase of 14 upon the March return. Pneumonia showed a decrease of eight cases. Of the 11 cases reported two were in the city, four in the suburbs, and fivo in country districts. There were fivo cases of influenza pneumonia and four cases of infantile paralysis reported, tho corresponding figures for March being four and nine respectively. There were sixcases of puerperal septicaemia, tho same number as the previous month. Single cases were notified of legarthio encephali- . lis. aEYainelaa, and tetanus. .'. •-•'■;■.;,:.
