SALVATION OF HUMANITY.

FAILURE MEANS RUIN. (A. and N.Z. LONDON. April 30. The Italian newspaper Osservatore Romano publishes a letter from the Pope to Cardinal Gasparri, expressing appreciation of the nation's efforts at Genoa to bring peace to the world. "It will mean the salvation of humanity if the conference succeeds," he said, " and civilisation will bo brought to rain if it fails." Mr. Lloyd George warmly applauds the terms of the Pope's letter, and says:— " The Holy Father speaks with knowledge of the conditions of Western Europe. So clear a pronouncement in favour of peace with Russia is a great assft to the conference," He added that the letter had given great encouragement to the Christian nations at Genoa.
