MR. JOHN L. GrLLIES.

The death is; announced of Mr. John LiJlie. Gillies, manager of the Westport Coal Company and deputy-chairman of the High Schools Board, in his 57th year. MRS. W. HOWE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA. Monday. The death occurred yesterday of Mrs. Howe, wife of Mr. William Howe, of Gate Pa, in her 66th year. The deceased was born in London, where her father war a cotton merchant. She was married in Eryjland, and left for New Zealand in 1884, arriving in Auckland by the ship Bombay. she resided in. Auckland and Opotiki until eight years ago, when she settled with her family in Tauranga. She was postmistress at Gate Pa Tor three years, and resigned the position on account of ill-health. She is survived by her hnsband, three sons— Messrs. William and Cecil How©, of Auckland, and Mr. Victor Howe, of Tauranga—and one daughter—Mrs. A. Millar, of Gate Pa.
