A conference lasting all day reached a basis of settlement, between masters and men in the shipbuilding trouble. The employers now propose that 16s of the 26s 6d war bonus shall bo withdrawn by a. series of cuts, leaving 10s in abeyance. It is hoped that the men's executive will recommend the shipbuilders to accept this. THE COTTON INDUSTRY. OPERATIVES ACCEPT " CUT." Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. April 25. The dispute regarding the wages of cotton operatives has been settled on the basis of an immediate reduction of 3s 8d in the £ on present wages, and a further 9d in November. It is expected that the settlement will mean the revival of the Lancashire industry. All sections of the Manchester cotton operatives accepted an immediate reduction in wages of 3s 3d in the £, with a further reduction of lOd six months ahead.
