GAME-SHOOTING GUNS.
USE OF AUTOMATIC WEAPONS.
NEW REGULATION ISSUED.
The Order-in-Council of March 25, prohibiting the use of automatic or autoloading guns for game shooting has now been modified. A letter received by the secretary of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, Mr. S. 0. Chambers, from the Department of Internal Affairs, states that it has been decided to allow the use of an automatic or auto-loading gun in cases where it has been converted into a gun capable of holding two cartridges only, which, it is understood, can be done by fixing a pin through the magazine, allowing it to hold only one cartridge, the other cartridge, of course, being in the breech of the gun. The decision to allow the use of the gun is, however, subject to the police and the local Acclimatisation Society being satisfied that the gun has been so altered as to convert it into practically an ordinary double-barrelled gun, and also subject to the condition that the gun has not_ a larger bore than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle and does not exceed 101b. in weight, as the use of any gun of a larger size or greater weight is specifically prohibited by law.
