«~ -o—__ ESTABLISHMENT IN LONDON. GIFT OF £400,000 MADE. The British Minister of Health announces that tho Rockefeller Foundation has offered to provide a sum of £400,000 toward the cost of building and equipping j a school of hygiene in London on the un. I derstanding that the British Government accopts tho responsibility of providing for • staffing and maintaining the school when J established. | Such a school was recommended by the committee appointed early in 1921 to con- ■ aider provision for post-graduato medical j education in London. This recommendaI tion wa s further considered by an expert ! committee, with the Minister of' Health I as ch.-.irman. In view of the difficulty at' present of financing the scheme, tho whole caso was put to tho Rockefeller Founda- j tion as one in which thoy might think it well to co-operate in the general interest! of progress in public health hero and abroad. As a result the Rockefeller Trustees have made the generous offer ' I above announced, which has been gratefully accepted by the Minister of Healti | on behalf of the Government. ; Mr. Grant Ramsay, principal of the' Institute of Hygiene, speaking at a meet- | ' ing of that body, said that the condition ! I attached to the offer of the Rockefeller Foundation was that the British GovernI ment should subscribe £25,000 annually for five years for tho upkeep of the Imperial Institute.
