I In the sincles Miss X. Curtis ('New Zea- | land) beat .Miss Ft. George, 6—2, 6—3, displaying fine fori hand driving, and also I volleying well. Mrs. Lascelles beat Miss j Marjorie Macfarlane (New Zealand), 6—o, j 6—2, Miss Macfarlane excelling in backI line play. Miss Cray beat Miss M. Pay- I ; ton (New Zealand), 6—2, 6—o. Miss Pay. j ton was not equal to inter-State standard, | I Miss Lloyd beat Miss Z. Wellwood (New , j Zealand), 6-4, 6—2. Miss Wellwood was weak in her returns. I In the doubles Miss St. George and I Mrs. Lascelles beat Misses Curtis and Wellwood. 6-1, 6-2. The New South Wales combination was too strong, though Miss Curtis was displaying form of a hiu'h standard. Misses Macfarlane and Payton beat Misses Lloyd and Gray, 6—7, 6—3, 6—l, after a keen contest, Miss j Macfarlane played an outstanding game, | but Miss Payton was somewhat feeble. On the day's play Miss Curtis stood out from her colleagues and opponents, and greatly impressed the critics. The quartette will be engaged against New South Wales again on Saturday in four singles and two doubles. The series will be continued on Tuesday and Wednesday. __^_______
