Members of the aristocracy and dignitaries and generals under the former Imperial regime crowded the cathedral, where a Requiem Mass was celebrated for the ex-Emperor Charles. Afterwards thousands of monarchists paraded the streets shouting, "Down with the Jewish Republic." The President refused to lowor the flags on public buildings in view of the strong opposition by deputies to the observance of mourning. Mounted police cleared the streets.

The Conference of Allied Ambassadors has decided that the ex-Empress Zita need no longer be forced to reside in Madeira. The conference is approaching tho Austrian succession States regarding a suitable income for the ex-Emperor's family.
