QUEEN STREET FATALITY.
IDENTIFICATION OF VICTIM.
RESIDENT OF PUTARURU.
The victim of the tramway fatality in Queen Street on Monday afternoon was identified yesterday as Mr. John Gladwin Vercoe, farm labourer, of Putaruru, and a brother-in-law of Mr. Robert Arthur Dowell, land agent, of Auckland. Mr. Vercoe died in the Auckland Hospital on Monday evening as a result of injuries received through being knocked down by a car about 4.30 o'clock. At the inquest oponed yesterday afternoon by the coroner, Mr. J. W. Poynton, 8.M., medical evidence as to the cause of death was taken. The inquest was adjourned. Mr. Vercoe was well known in the Bay of Plenty. He was the fourth eon of Mrs. Vercoe and the late Mr. J. L. Vercoe, of Tauranga, and for many years was associated with the cattle business in that district.
