OVERSEAS MAIL SERVICE.
QUESTION OF TERMINAL. WELLINGTON AND AUCKLAND A matter concerning the overseas mail services was brought under the notice of the council of the Chamber of Commerces yesterday, by Mr. R. Burns. The writer said that a peculiar position had arisen in connection with the mails from San Francisco to Wellington and from Vancouver to Auckland. Of late there had always been a much larger mail carried to Wellington than to Auckland. It seemed to him that it was part of tho policy of the Union Company to direct the mails to Wellington as far as possible, and if the company oould show, when the Vancouver service came up again for discussion, that the "majority of the mails came via Wellington, and not via Auckland, it only meant a matter of time when the company would consequently withdraw the fast service to Vancouver. He considered the chamber should investigate the matter, otherwise he feared the company might make soma arrangement which the chamber would bo unable to alter. The Shipping Committee was asked to consider the point and report.
