ROADING PROPOSALS. [W TELBGBAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ' TADRANGA. W«dnwj»y. The monthly meeting of the Tauranga I County Council was held on Monday. The Publio Work* Department forwarded a copy of an Order-in-Counoil declaring portions of roads in Apata Settlement to be county roads, It wag decided that the engineer and councillors interested should inspect the roads and report to the council. The council regarded the price asked i for land for the proposed connecting road ; from Kongiuru station to Earana road as excessive, and favoured taking th» land under the Public Work 8 Act The council accorded its support to a request to the commissioner of Crown lands, Auckland, asking him to consider the purchase of the eastern end of Whakemarama No. 1 block by the Government. It wag stated the section, which was owned by natives, contained about 200 acres, and was entirely surrounded by European owners. It was a stumbling block to the roading of the district. The joining up of Minden and Whakamarama roads, a distance of little over a mile, could not b| accomplished as long as the block was In native hands. It was decided to call tenders for metalling works in Maketu, Te Puna, and Kalikati ridings, the total cost of which will, run into several thousands of pounds.
