RESCUE OF STERLING CREW.

MELBOURNE PRESENTATION

To mark the appreciation of Hhe citizens of Melbourne of the gallant rescue by H.M.A.S..Melbourne, of the officers and crew of the American schooner Helen B. Sterling off the; coast of New Zealand on January 23, the Lord Mayor of Melbourne entertained the officers of the flagship and the crew of the rescuing boat at the Town Hall on March 2. To Captain E J. Feakes, of the Melbourne, the Lord Mayor presented, on behalf of the city, two large flags, one the White Ensign, and the other the Australian " Jack." A cigarette case, inscribed "To Commander Ward Hunt, from the City of Melbourne, as a memento of the rescue of the crew of the Helen B. Sterling H.M.A.S. Melbourne, January 23, 1922," with the corporation Coat of Arms on the reverse side, was also presented, as well as gold medals to the following members of the rescue partv:—Leading Signalman Nourse, Leading Seaman H. Eisie (coxswain), and Able Seamen Woods, Armstrong, Duncan, Jamieson, Baker. Frver, Felthnm. Gibbs. Jackson, Heasman, March, and Davie. The medals were inscribe " For devotion to iMv, H.M.A.S. Melbourne, January 23, 1922 *
