BROWN'S ISLAND REEF.

LIGHT TO BE PROVIDED.

A light is to be provided at Brown's Island reef in place of the present buoy. This suggestion was recently made to the Harbour Board by Mr. E. H. Davis, and the matter was referred to the harbourmaster, Captain H. H. Sargent, for a report. At the meeting of the board yesterday, lhat official reported that he considered it would be a decided advantage to substitute the proposed light for the buoy. He _ recommended that a substantial beacon, similar to that at the Devonport sandspit, and lighted with a red flashing light, should be erected on the Bite at present occupied by the black buoy. The cost he estimated at £150. The board adopted the recommendation. It was also decided to fix additional lights on the eastern breakwater for the safety of navigation.
