FIJI BANANAS IN CANADA. Reference has already been made to an experimental shipment of bananas from Fiji to. Vancouver. The delivery of the describe'd by the Vancouver Daily World as the forging of " a new link in' the chain of Imperial trade." It said: " Canada has taken its first step toward opening up a new trade route and, above all, establishing in Canada a credit for the South Sea Islands, which can only spell commercial orders for Canadian products and freights for Canadian steamers from Vancouver to the Southern Pacific, incidentally marking a milestone toward Vancouver's destiny to be the premier port of the Pacific." _ ' The fruit arrived in very good order, considering. that it was 28 days on the way but it was so nearly ripe that had local' stocks not been light, the success of the shipment might hare been less. In the circumstances, the bananas realised about 7 celts a pound wholesale.
