BREACH OF PROBATION.

"THREE MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT.

"You have wiped your boots- on the Probation Act, and uow you cannot eipeci consideration," said Mr. J. W. Poyntoc, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday after hearing the probation officer's report on William John Reader, who was charged with having failed to comply with the terms of his release on probation. The probation officer Btated that accused was before the Court in August for theft, and was admitted to two years' probation. In January he was sentenced to two months' imprisonment for obtaining goods by false pretences. He had given a lot of trouble. The probation officer suggested that a sentence of three months' imprisonment be imposed. t •••• Mr. Poynton said probation was useless to such men. Accused was sentenced to three months' hard labour. ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. On a charge of having obtained £10 from C. H. Fastier at Helensville by means of a valueless cheque Harold Willoughy Joyce (Mr. Wyatt) was remanded for a week. Bail was fixed at £200. GAOL FOR DRUNKENNESS. William Carey was sentenced to one month's imprisonment for drunkenness, this being his fifth offence within ox months.
