LANDRU EXECUTED.
GUILLOTINED ON SATURDAY. LAST PROTEST OF INNOCENCE Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 1.80 p.m.) PARIS. Feb. 25. Henri Landru, the French "Bluebeard," who was found guilty of murdering 11 women, whose remains he incinerated in a stove at a villa at Cambais, was executed at Versailles this morning. An appeal for mercy was rejected by the President on Friday. He spent a restless night, but was sound asleep when the Governor entered his cell at 5.45 a.m. He dressed quietly and refused the chaplain's ministrations. He said: "I repeat I am innocent," and walked a few yards to the scaffold. Only officials and pressmen were present. The streets leading to the scene were barricaded.
