JOURNALISTS' AWARD.
MINOR ALTERATIONS. [B? TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. The Court of Arbitration has issued its award in connection with the Auckland journalists' dispute. The salaries of reporters are not altered except in the case of general reporters, whose salaries are increased by fy per week. The existing bonuses are continued. The chief alteration in respect of, wages is in regard to readers. The new award provides that readers shall be paid not less than the miuimum rate of wages (including bonuses) and overtime, and shall work the hours, and be subject to the conditions, and receive the holidays prescribed for linotype operators in the Typographical Award for the time being in force. The grading of readers has been abolished. The wages of readers will be: — Day, first reader, £6 3s, others, £5 13s; night, first reader, £§ 13s, others, £6 3s. Readers will also receive an additional 10s for work en Saturday night editions. The above rates are inclusive of all bonuses. The hours of reporters are fixed at not exceeding 48 per weekly period. Overtime is to be compensated for in time off at the rate of one hour and a-half off for each hour worked, time off to be given within the succeeding 14 days instead of the succeeding 21 days as the previous award provided.
