BRITISH BOXING.
LLOYD BEATS TOWNLEY.
AN EASY VICTORY. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.
(Reed 5.3Q p.m.) LONDON. Feb. 23. Albert Llpyd, the Australian heavyweight boxer, formerly of Auckland, outpointed Arthur Townloy in their match to-day. Lloyd dispelled all doubt as to his superiority over Townley, which some critics had disputed. Townley scored only in occasional rounds and never looked like a winner, though ho fought gamely and sometimes more cleverly. The earlier rounds were uneventful, but in the eleventh round Lloyd's uppercuttinjj was masterly. Townley was badly jarred, but fought back pluckily and scored in the twelfth round. Thereafter he had a very rough passage, receiving very heavy punishment. He was brought down more than once in the seventeenth round. Lloyd punched effectively, frequently driving his opponent to the ropes. Town* ley was obviously outfought and it seemed doubtful that he would stay the full time. By dint of the greatest effort he avoided a knockout. Lloyd's viotory was very <;asy.
