THE FRANKLIN SHOW.

37th ANNUAL DISPLAY. •RECORD NUMBER OF ENTRIES LIGHT HORSES A FEATURE. The Franklin A. and P. Society, which claims to bold " the great autumn show " of the Auckland province, opened its 37th annual autumn display at Pukckoho yesterday with record entries, the total number being about 2400. Pukekche is the centre of ono of the richest districts in New Zealand, and within a 20 miles radius are the fertile Aka Aka and Otaua Plains and the rolling downs of Waiukn, the fruit arid dairying lands of Toakau and Onowhero, the volcaniclands of Bombay, Pukekohe, and Pukekawa, all of which add their quota to the attractions of the show. The districts of Clevedon, Papakura, and Drury are also well represented. A strong feature of this year's show is the light horse section. In spite of the chan.'.s of motor-cars and motor-bicycles, the New Zealander loves a good horse, as is proved by the fact that thero are 53 entries in some of the hunter classes. The dairy cattle classes are also well represented. This year the milking Shorthorns and Jerseys are Tery strong, while the Freisians and Ayrshires are an advance on previous years. Both Freisians and AvTshires aro gaining popularity, as is evidenced by the strong entries in these breeds. There are many typical and representative animals in all these breeds. Ths Jersey breeders are making a strong

point of milk records. A particular feature of this show is a class of 14 veteran cows with butter-fat records under the C.O.R. test from 4001bs. to 6001bs. of fat. T->day, "people's day," there is a popular programme. The hunting events in the ring will be keenly contested. Hot water will be provided free, and the Pukekohe Brass Band will be in attendance. TB AWAMUTTJ ASSOCIATION. SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION. [by. telegraph—own correspondent.] TE AWAMUTU, Friday. The second annual show of the Te Awamutu A. and P. Association on Wednesday was a very successful one, there being splendid exhibits throughout and a large attendance. The weather, though overcastj was fine, and Albert Park made an admirable show ground. The judges commented on the uniform high standard of the exhibits, which compared very favourably with those offering elsewhere, and which were an evidence of the high standard of breeding, particularly in Jersey and Shorthorn cattle.
