BOYCOTT OF BEER.

LONDON DOCK WORKERS.

ATTEMPT TO REDUCE PRICES

Australian and N,Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 6.45 n.m.) LONDON, Feb. 20. A beer boycott has been started by London dock workers. A million workers have gone dry and have entered a solemn league and covenant not to drink beer until the price is reduced. Every bar in dockland to-day was deserted except for a few martyrs eating sandwaches to the accompaniment of tea, coffee, or cocoa.

Mi'. Bevin, the secretary of the Dock Workers' Union, is trying to make the boycott effective throughout the country, but tlius far he has had little success iii the provinces. Instead, working men's clubs are petitioning tho Chancellor of the Exchequer to reduce the beer tax. which is the real cause of high prices.
