BUTTER EQUALISATION.
AMOUNT DUE TO WAIKATO.
MATTER BEING ADJUSTED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Tueafoy. Referring to the outstanding equalisation payment due to tho New Zealand Dairy Company on last season's butter sales, Mr. W. Claud Motion, chairman of directors, who has just returned from Wellington after interviewing the officials of the Imperial Supplies Department, together with Dr. C. J. Rea&es (Director-General of Agriculture), stated to-day that it was quite clear that there had been a good deal of misunderstanding on both sides. A personal interview in Wellington ha-d cleared up the position considerably. When the matter was first brought before tho directors early in November an estimate was prepared by the Company showing that approximately a Bum of £50,000 was due by the Government. This matter was brought forward in the House of Representatives on December 31, but previously to this date a sum of £12,000 had been forwarded to the company by the Department of Imperial Supplies on account. When Mr. Sinclair (assistant manager to the company] referred at a Morrinsville meeting to the amount due by the Government he was not aware that this monev had been remitted on account, and until the audit was completed the specific sum duo by the Government could not be known. Mr. Motion intimated to the officers of the department that the special reconciliation statements required by the Imperial Supplies Department were ready and th« department had arranged • that the Government auditor should make a start with this work early next week. Mr. Motion stated further that he met with every courtesy from the Government officers, and it was quite obvious that they were anxious to bring the matter to finality.
