TUBERCULOSIS TREATMENT.
DOMINION UP TO DATE.
TOO MUCH OPERATING.
[BX TELEGUAm—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHKISTCHURCH. Tuosday.
Dr. Lan Maclntyre, who for some years was assistant to Dr. Blackmore, medical superintendent of the Cashmere consumption sanatorium, writing from London on December 21, Bays;—"l am quite convinced we in New Zealand, especially in Chiistchurch, are dealing with tuberculosis as efficiently and as thoroughly as in any place I have seen—much better than in most parts of this country, but nothing is done for the other forms of tuberculosa in Now Zealand. That is a question that I feel will have to be tackled one of these days, ,instead of leaving most of theso peoplo in tho stuffy wards of a, general hospital. That will clash with manv a surgeon's idea of the treatment of tuberculosis, as they are usually keen on removing any tuberculosis disease if possible. I am sure if there were less operating and more left t-o nature to repair there would be more recoveries from these cases of so-called surgical tuberculosis, such as bones, joints, glands, etc. " Wherover I go I show a collection of photographs which I took of the Cashmere sanatorium, and one and all aro high in their praises of it. I have not yet seen a sanatorium to touch it, both from the point of view of structure and position, and also tho general treatment carried out by Dr. Black mora"
