MOTOR REGULATIONS.

PASSING OF TRAMCARS.

UNIFORM BY-LAWS NEEDED,

SUPREME COURT JURY'S RIDER.

The need for uniformity in the by-laws of local bodies governing motor triffic was emphasised at the Supreme Court yesterday by the jury in the case in which a taxi-driver was charged with manslaughter. The case arose out of the death of a ten-year-old girl, who was run over by a motor-car just after alighting from a tram in Manukau Road. After announcing that the jury had found accused not guilty, but that it held the opinion that he had committed an error of judgmont, the foreman read the following rider:— " That the jury unanimously agrees that in consequence of the frequent accidents recorded by motor-cars passing stationary tramcars and tho ignoring by motorists of the present variable and confusing bylaws, it deems it urgently necessary' that all local boiiies having control of the roads should form uniform by-laws to prevent any motor-car passing a stationajy tram, except at such intersecticfns which are under the control of a police officcr in charge." His Honor remarked that it was a very sensible rider, and he would bo pleased to forward it on to the authorities.
