PREVENTION OF CRUELTY.
ACTIVITIES OF THE SOCIETY. The committee of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met on Monday, the Rev. P. S. Smallfield presiding. The secretary reported that 32 cases had been attended to in the woman and children department, of which 20 dealt with troubles between husbands and wives, and six conccrned children. The inspector reported that ho had given 28 cautions in the case of animals neglected or ill-used; he had taken one case to Court, when the offender was fined £5- and had destroyed humanely seven animals. Mrs. Helen Fry was appointed inspector in the women and children department. Mr. A. C. Hill was appointed honorary inspector in the animal department. Miss Jackson and Miss Burton were appointed representative!) to the local branch of the National Council of Women. The committee approved of the suggested State Children's Council, consisting of members of both sexes for the administration of the care of children dependent upon the State, as suggested by the National Council of Women.
