DOMINION CONFERENCE. CRITICISM OF SURVEYORS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION,] WELLINGTON. Tuesday. Civil engineers from all over the Dominion are attending their annual cc a . ference which opened to-day. Mr. F. W. Mac Lean, chief engineer of Now Zealand railways, presided. The Mayor, Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., welcomed the delegates, and wislied the. conference every success. Tlje annual report of tie council showed that the mombernhip of the society was ' increasing. The total now stood at, 305 including 177 members and 112 associates, The report referred to the opposition of the _Nev Zealand Institute of Surveyors, which " was a very important factor in influencing the Cabinet not to take up th 6 Registration of Engineers Bill as a Government, measure." The council would continue to endeavour to sscure the passing of legislation the principles of which had alrsady been approved 'by the societv.

Surveyors made extraordinary demands, whereta the proposals of the engineers were most moderate and unselfish. Mr. Sladden said the delegates representing the surveyors did not rearesent the views of surveyors generally. The report was adopted. The following officers were elected President, Mr. Ashley Hunter, AucklMi; vice-president, Mr. F. W., Furkert, Wellington; council, Messrs. A. J. Bskti, Auckland, F. J. Dunedin, L F. Toogood, and H. Sharp. Wellington. It was decided to hold the nest inference in Auckland.
