GOVERNMENT GRANT WANTED.
The Auckland University College Council met yesterday, the chairman, the Hon. George Fowlds, presiding. There were also present Professors C. W. Egerton. H, W, Segar, A. P. W. Thomas, Dr. T. W. Leys, Messrs, H. J. D. Mahon, W. J. Holdsworth, J. F. Hosking, T. U. Wells, and Kenneth Mackenzie.
Tho position regarding the plans for the new arts building was considered in committee. The chairman reported that correspondence had been considered, and that as a result of ,a conference with the Minister for Education, the Hon. 0. J. Parr, the latter had promised to submit a proposal to the Cabinet for the building to. proceed. After considerable discussion it was decided,' on the motion of the chairman, to make application to the Government for a grant of £1000 for the establishment of a school of architecture, conditional on the Auckland branch of the. New Zealand Institute of Architects find-'
ing £300. The registrar was instructed to take the necessary steps to fill the seat on the council formerly held by Mr. E. C. Banks, as representative of the Auckland Education Board.
